A bystander called...

and led to the rescue of 2 minors.

A woman boarded a bus and noticed two minors on the bus who spoke a foreign language. The couple traveling with them did not speak the same language and seemed to be a different nationality than the minors.

She overheard the two minors say that their mother is lost. She found this strange as the couple was acting like they were the parents of these two minors. She decided to call the A21 National Hotline in South Africa, and provided the information of the highway that the bus was traveling on and the license plate number. Our hotline team worked quickly to reach the bus company and was able to get more information on the bus route and the contact details of the bus driver. We managed to locate the bus destination and establish contact with the driver.

Law enforcement was then dispatched and able to stop the bus on route in coordination with the driver. The suspects were taken into custody and we were able to partner with law enforcement in coordinating support services for the children.

A victim called...

and led to her rescue and the arrest of her traffickers.

A 16-year-old girl thought her friend had her best interest in mind...until she found herself in a town she didn’t know. Her “friend” had recruited her to be sold in the sex trade and exploited in a brothel. She was given a phone to recruit other girls she knew—but instead, this young girl remembered a hotline number to call. She bravely made a call for help to our Bulgarian Hotline. While on the phone, she was able to make a run for it and our call specialists guided her to a safe location. Law enforcement was waiting for her there, and once she was safe, they conducted an operation arresting her traffickers.

One call was the difference. What was supposed to be used for recruiting others into slavery, was used for freedom. Today, you can be the reason one more call leads to freedom for another life.

A police officer called...

and led to a man’s rescue from labor trafficking.

A police officer from a small rural town called our Hotline suspecting a victim of forced labor trafficking. By talking through what he had seen with our call specialists, we were able to confirm his suspicions and give him a few more indicators to look out for. We then connected him to the Human Trafficking Task Team in his region who guided the rescue of this victim.

This police officer knew our number from a poster he saw during professional training. He knew enough to suspect trafficking, called the hotline as a resource, and in essence, orchestrated this man's rescue just by taking time to make one call. Every call matters.

“I believe hotlines are the key to changing the face of trafficking. There is just so much power in a tool like the hotline being available and community members being educated on what to look out for and knowing where to report these situations so that services can be provided.”

– Katie M. South Africa Country Manager
