For many victims of human trafficking, the road to recovery can be long and challenging. This journey often includes navigating physical and mental health issues, substance abuse, unhealthy relationships, and financial and housing instability. But Freedom Centers worldwide provide one-on-one and group support to help survivors heal from their trauma and rediscover their purpose.
Freedom Centers are drop-in day facilities designed to empower survivors with the skills and resources to restore wellness, reintegrate safely into society, and live independently.
A21 has replicated this aftercare model worldwide and scaled it across six different countries, supporting over one thousand survivors.

Seeking refuge, a man promised to send Anton to a new country after he worked off his debt. However, Anton was forced into a small, dark room with others for the next several years, working from sunrise to sunset with no pay.
Lack of food and physical abuse left Anton unable to work, so the trafficker left him on the street. Local authorities found Anton with false documents and identified him as a victim of human trafficking. He connected with A21, where our team provided immediate medical care and legal assistance.
Anton attends the Freedom Center, where he studies Greek and searches for a new job. He dreams of owning a farm to support himself. In Anton’s words, A21 gives him hope— “I don’t know what I would do without you or where I would be."

Laura, a teenage girl with a fairly typical life, unexpectedly found herself in a dangerous situation. An attractive young man reached out to her on social media, complimenting her appearance. Their relationship developed until she agreed to run away with him.
After a week of partying, the man’s demeanor changed. He demanded that Laura get a job to contribute to the bills, manipulating her to believe that no one would hire her since she was a runaway. Convincing Laura to sell her body, she was physically and sexually abused for months.
Laura was approached by an undercover police officer who offered her a way out. She reconnected with her parents and was referred to A21 for long-term assistance. Our Aftercare team helped Laura set goals as she was nearing adulthood, move into an apartment, complete a High School Diploma program, and find a part-time job. She is active in individual and family counseling with her parents. Laura gains strength from the people around her who support her dreams and accomplishments.

At age 10, Bora went to work to help her family climb out of debt. Separated from her family, relocated to a different city, and trafficked for forced labor, she worked 12 hours a day in dangerous conditions.
She often went without food or water to generate a profit for her trafficker. Her exploitation continued for many years until the day our Child Advocacy Center was notified of suspected child abuse and requested to identify the victim. Together with local authorities, A21 assisted Bora to safety.
Today, Bora is free and receives the support she needs to heal from the trauma. She’s in school for the first time and is positively engaged in her community.

Texas is home to one of our newest Freedom Centers. A large Spanish-speaking population of survivors from Latin America and Mexico utilizes our services in the Dallas-Fort Worth Area. This location prioritizes emergency accommodation assistance because there is a significant need for survivor housing in Texas. Our Aftercare team has partnered with shelters in the region, but when a shelter is not ideal for a survivor, we provide other safe accommodation options.
