During his travels across Ukraine, Denis was offered an opportunity to work overseas. It seemed too good to pass up. But once he arrived, his “employers” burned his identity documents, beat him, threatened his life, and enslaved him for the following three years. Without his legal documents, Denis wasn’t able to prove who he was. He was left trapped.
After several unsuccessful attempts, Denis was able to escape. He ran into a local family that kindly helped him return home.
Denis’ story represents a larger part of our aftercare efforts in Ukraine, where we are seeing more and more survivors of labor trafficking come into our care. In 2017 alone, 64% of our aftercare cases in Ukraine have involved survivors of forced labor. Denis is one of many victims who were forced into slavery, but now his story is one of freedom.
A21 has the opportunity to come alongside Denis and assist him in his journey toward healing, restoration, and making his dreams a reality.
