Can You See Me? exists to highlight the hidden crime of human trafficking, which often happens in plain sight, in places we least expect. Transportation hubs are often a passageway for victims of human trafficking. This is why we have partnered with airports across Sydney, Melbourne, and Perth to bring awareness of exploitation to potential victims, staff, and passengers alike.
This campaign gives people the knowledge and tools to recognise exploitation and take action. Together, we can protect those at risk and make it harder for trafficking to go unnoticed. Check out a glimpse of these videos and others below.

Online Child Sexual Exploitation
Scenario 7 – SEEN
Meet Lily –
She's fourteen, easy to overlook. Just a tree in the school play, not the lead. When she posts a video about her small moment onstage it barely gets a glance. Almost no one notices. Except one account — a cute boy who comments like he really sees her, who pays attention when no one else did. It feels like proof she matters. She starts reshaping herself to keep his attention — braver, older — the lines moving a little at a time, not by force but by reassurance that feels like care.
Online Child Sexual Exploitation –
Online child sexual exploitation consists of many forms of exploitation against children online, including persuading a minor (someone under the age of 18) to create child sexual abuse material (CSAM). CSAM is sexually explicit content involving a child including photos, videos, or digitally created images that depict the sexual abuse or exploitation of a minor. Often offenders will manipulate the child to engage in such conduct by first building an emotional connection and relationship to gain trust, with the ultimate goal of sexual exploitation.
Potential Warning Signs that a Child is Being Exploited Online –
- Experiencing a breakdown in relationships—isolating from peers or family, or withdrawing from usual social circles.
- Changes in physical appearance, such as sudden weight loss or alterations in makeup or clothing choices.
- Showing up with gifts or possessions that can't be explained.
- Becoming upset, withdrawn, or anxious after using the internet or texting.
- Shifting temperament - becoming moody, aggressive, or withdrawn.
- Accumulating numerous new phone numbers, or email addresses.
- They exhibit secretive behaviour, especially when asked about their activities.
- Receiving excessive texts or calls.
- Excessive time on mobile phones, gaming consoles, or other electronic devices.
- Leaving home without explanation or frequently returning home late.
- Struggling with sleep or eating habits, showing signs of anxiety.
- Skipping school or becoming disruptive in class.
*While no single indicator confirms the existence of online child sexual exploitation, several indicators combined can increase the likelihood that a child is being exploited.

Statistics show that this person has likely done this to other kids, or may be doing the same thing to someone else now.

Whether you or someone you know is in immediate danger, or you are just suspicious, call and make a report about the person and the incident to the police.

If you’re concerned but not sure, contact your local law enforcement or make a report to a child protection organisation like The Australian Centre to Counter Child Exploitation (ACCCE).

To remove explicit images online The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children has a free service.
Takeitdown.ncmec.org can be used to help you remove or stop the online sharing of nude, partially nude, or sexually explicit images and videos taken of you before you were 18. This service can be used anonymously.
*Important Note: Do NOT forward or delete any texts, emails, or pictures - this is evidence. Give them directly to law enforcement after reporting.

Signs of Trafficking
Look for clues that identify a possible
victim of modern-day slavery.
Controlled by another person
They are accompanied by a controlling person, and do not speak on his or her own behalf, but instead defer to another person.
Controlled Movement
They are transported to or from work, or live and work at the same place. They show signs that their movements are being controlled.
Lack of Earnings
They are unable to keep his or her earnings: it is “withheld for safekeeping.” In many cases, the person owes a debt they are working to pay off.
Foreign, Unfamiliar with the Language
They have recently arrived in the country and do not speak the language of the country—or they only know sex-related or labour-related words.
OVERLY FEARFUL, DEPRESSED, SUBMISSIVE BEHAVIOUR
They are frightened to talk to outsiders and authorities since they are closely monitored and controlled by their trafficker(s). They may be fearful, anxious, depressed, overly submissive, and may avoid eye contact.
Bad health & Malnutrition
They may have signs of abuse or signs of being denied food, water, sleep, and/or medical care.
Lack of Identification
They are not in possession of their passports, identification, or legal documents.

Signs of Physical ABuse
They may have bruises, scars, and other signs of physical abuse and torture. Victims of human trafficking are often beaten in areas that will not damage their appearance, such as their lower back.
Substance Abuse
They may show signs of drug use or drug addiction. They can be forced or coerced into drug use by his or her traffickers, or turn to substance abuse to help cope with his or her enslavement.
Lack of Trust
They may be distrustful and suspicious. A victim of human trafficking may act as if they distrust any person who offers them assistance or attempts to converse with them.
Lack of Personal Belongings
They may have few or no personal possessions.
Signs of Dependence
They may demonstrate affection, attachment, or dependence toward their abuser.
Deceived by a False Job Offer
Their actual job is different from the advertised job they had accepted.
Feelings of Being Trapped
They feel that they are unable to leave their current situation.
